When you are ready for things to come resolve they will start to come off the stack from top (newest) to bottom (oldest). You can also do other instant speed things like pump dreadnought, untap selvala, etc. This is when you must tap Selvala to get the 12 mana. Now - there is a priority window for you to do things while the ETB trigger is on the stack but before it resolves. You don’t have to sacrifice yet - it’s just on the stack and that etb trigger could even be countered if somebody had a stifle or something. When it comes into play, there is an ETB (enter the battlefield) trigger that goes onto the stack from Dreadnaught. The sac trigger is not irrelevant though and it is used once you get infinite mana - sometimes you need to use a fattie to draw your deck off the selvala trigger but your creatures are too big. You respond while the trigger is on the stack. Yes, for dreadnought it’s what others have pointed out.
